Oakland Cemetery

When we went to Oakland we had to do a word of what we thought is connecting to Oakland. The word had to represent Oakland somehow. Also before we took the picture we had to get our word approve by a teacher.

All of these dead people make me think about the past
How they lived
How they were treated
How some even fought for our country
But there are many different types of people
Like a good person and a bad person
They are like a cloud in the sky
Soring up into the netherworld
Of the future
In the past of the dead
There were times I just wanted to cry
Or maybe smile
Or chuckle
Whatever it was
I know there
Always will be a place for me
In the future

This poem relates to Oakland because there are a lot of dead people buried here. Also this connects because it connects to the past and what happened in the past.

The thing that I learned this week was there were 4 phases in the Atlanta History. I also learned that Atlanta had two names before it got names Atlanta. The names were Terminus and Marthasville.

Oakland Cemetery Reflection

On our trip, I learned Oakland is the oldest cemetery in Atlanta. It was originally called Atlanta Cemetery and had only 6 acres. It was named Oakland because of all the oak trees that were there. It was established where downtown is today, but then it was moved.

I enjoyed having lunch and seeing the Conferdate Lion. Also, we saw Jasper Newton Smith. Jasper Newton Smith is close to the entrance and he faces Atlanta because he wanted to face the city he was creating. Jasper Newton Smith also hated neck ties and he made his mausoleum before he died so he could make sure there wasn’t a neck tie on his grave. I liked going to Oakland for the second time!

Weekly Reflection 9/7/12

And I am back to tell you about this week and what happened. I learned that Georgia has watersheds. I also learned that men are not smarter than woman but men have bigger brains than woman. I think I did well but I can do better. My goal is to not talk as much when the teacher is talking. In conclusion, I hope y’all read my blog next week because I will be back and have an AWESOME week. Until next week, bye.
