FDR

Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Franklin Delano Roosevelt  (or FDR) was the 32nd President of the United States of America. In his run for president  FDR had a disease called polio which disabled him. He wanted to get the photographers to talk pictures of him only while he was sitting down. He wanted to keep polio a secret.  He had a wife named Eleanor.  She was with them the whole way through polio. Warm Springs is where he got his treatments, and took his first steps. Warm Springs is a center to help people with disorders.  He also made the new deal. It was for young men to work. I think his mom and his wife shaped him. His mom shaped him by giving him advice in tough situations. His wife shaped him by being there when he needed help and she always supported him in his elections. FDR was a great man and he will always will be remembered for what he has done for this country.

The Corkwood

Living on the Flint River
Growing very slowly like some other plants
So small like a bean
Rare like a Red Wolf
Green like emeralds
Brown like rich soil
It can be transformed into medicine
To help us
Survive
The corkwood tree
Is a tree
Which people who are lazy
Step on
Or even demolish
But me
I save it
And so will you
Someday

Reading Groups

In reading groups we have been reading a book. The book is Where the Lilies Bloom. Mary Call’s dad died so she steps in to be in charge of the family. No one knows about the dad’s death and Mary Call wants to keep it that way. The book Is ok. Its not that great and its it is not horrible. The theme is that they are not rich and the dad dies.

Snowflake

Snowflakes are made up of water
I'm made up of water
Snowflakes are  solid
I am solid
Snowflakes form in clouds
I formed inside my mother
Snowflakes melt into water
When I cry I shed water
Snowflakes are crystals
We have crystals
I am a snowflake

In transition we are learning about homelessness. To go in depth with that we are doing a drive for our selected family that they chose for us. The teachers took one person from our class and assigned them a kid from the family. We are supposed to get newly wrapped presents for them for the holidays.  We are also collecting items for a drive from everybody in the school. This is where we give baby stuff  to babies and their mothers who are at the shelter. The shelter gives them up to six months old and then the family leaves.  The other students visited the shelter but I didn’t. I was in Costa Rica. It is important to give because if we didn’t we would be stingy and we don't want to be stingy. We want to be nice and appreciative about what we have. That’s all for the community service circle. See you next time!

Foxfire

This week we went to Foxfire,  and it was really cool and fun. I learned when someone died that the person’s family will go to that dead person’s house back in the day. I also learned that they will burry whoever is dead at their house. They also made everything that they wanted. I liked everything but I didn’t like how it was freezing cold. Foxfire is important because we today can see how they lived back then. It was really fun and cold and I had a great time.

Appalachia Culture

In Georgia History, we got to learn about the Appalachian Culture. We also got to learn about how people lived back in the day. It was really fun and cool to see how people lived. From my reading and learning’s, I learned that they made there own food and their own toys. We also got to watch a movie on how they lived and that was pretty cool too. The people there made weird noises . They sung songs and dance on most days. The Appalachia people liked to tell stories about anything.

Trail of Tears
As I fish for my family’s and I food a white awaits me
“lets go” he says in a mean voice
there are more people crowding around my family
one by one we get taken away just like that
they take me away from my family
“no you cant take me away from my family”
he pulls me even harder
I try to escape but what is the point
He captured me
We go where everyone else is being taken
We call in the dungeon camp
Its so dark and cold
No one wants to be in the camp
At last we go on a trail and they bring us to what we call
Oklahoma
